The idea that we can actually take control of the aging process is becoming widespread today. We have products that can slow and even reverse aging in our faces, bodies and minds. Social media as well as the advertising we see on television and magazines tells as we no longer have to get old. Genetic heritage does play a factor but lifestyle choices help put each of us in the driver’s seat today.
The old stereotypes and attitudes about aging are being replaced with images of vibrant Seniors enjoying their retirement with healthy activities. If a person believes they have control over aging, everything about getting older changes. When problems develop with health, as an example, fewer symptoms occur and faster recovery takes place because the person expects to get better quickly.
The only thing we do know is that someday all of us will die. We have been trying to achieve immortality for centuries and many scientists believe we are closer now to this objective than we have ever been. In fact, as Bob explains on this show, science is revealing we can “reverse” the aging in human cells. Telomeres are the caps at the end of chromosomes and they roughly correspond to our age. The longer they are, the younger we are. Scientists are now able to target these cells and help them stay longer and healthier which in turn will help all of us live a more vibrant life.
