Musings Along The Appalachian Trail with Victoria Hawkins

The Appalachian Trail is 2,180 miles long and goes through 14 states.   It winds its way through wooded and pastoral lands and was built by private citizens.  It was completed in 1937 and is now managed by the National Park Service as well as thousands of volunteers.

Some people think this trail is the best long-distance hiking trail in the entire world, and, every years 3,000,000 people trek through at least a portion of the trail.  Hiking can be exhausting, but, overtime, your body will get used to the demands being placed on it.

One of the biggest decisions you’ll make is when to begin your hike and which direction you will want to take.  These two questions are closely related because they will determine whether you go north or south.  Victoria made her 7th adventure on the trail in July of this year and shares what she learned about herself and nature on today’s show.
