When someone is hypnotized, it is defined as being in a “highly focused” concentrative state which is often associated with relaxation. If a person is in a “hypnotic trance”, they are more open to helpful suggestions. Contrary to the belief held by many people, when you are under hypnosis, you are totally in control.
Hypnosis is most frequently used to break bad habits, to help recall forgotten experiences in order to heal a traumatic area in your life, to overcome insomnia and to manage pain.
There are a number of different hypnotic methods used by different practitioners.
Some of the more common techniques are:
- Relaxation
- A “Hand Shake” Technique
- Eye Cues
- Visualization
- “Count Down” Method
- The “Swish” Pattern
- “Reframing”
