Mindfulness is actually rooted in Buddhist traditions that began several thousand years ago. It is a form of self-awareness often described as “being in the present moment”. It also has as a component that the person be able to accept things for what they are without any judgment.
Jon Kabat-Zinn’s work helped to make this approach to life well known through his program called “Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction”. This concept teaches people to observe and accept all of the different streams of thought that naturally run through our minds. Using the mindfulness approach, you are aware of your thoughts and feelings but you don’t “react” to them.
It’s interesting how most of us live our lives on “autopilot”. Our thoughts tend to come and go and we go from one unfinished idea or thought to another one. If this description fits you, this interview with Kristin will help you better understand how to find a new dimension within yourself of relaxation and stillness.
