Managing Diabetes – An interview with Bob Gilpatrick

Bob, who is one of the co-founders of Boomers Forever Young, helps explain what being diagnosed with diabetes means and how to better manage this condition.  Diabetes is defined as “an impairment of the body’s ability to process blood glucose”.  It’s also important to understand there are different types of diabetic conditions.  Most of the time people are diagnosed with Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes.  In both cases it is important to watch your diet, exercise and possibly lose weight in order to keep this condition under control.

Type 1 Diabetes occurs when the body is unable to produce insulin so the person becomes insulin dependent meaning they must use artificial insulin daily in order to stay alive.

Type 2 Diabetes affects the way the body uses insulin since the cells in the body don’t respond to insulin the way they once did.  Generally, if the person watches their weight and changes their diet, this condition can be successfully managed.

In this interview, Bob explains the reason someone might develop diabetes and what a person can do to stay healthy even after the disease has been diagnosed.  Diabetes is a serious and chronic condition but it is also manageable if you know what to do and Bob skillfully explains how a person can remain in a healthy state of being during this interview.
